Background

SharkNinja is a global product design and technology company manufacturing consumer products, small household appliances, and accompanying innovative digital experiences. SharkNinja has transformed from its origins as an early-stage pioneer into a portfolio of trusted, global, billion-dollar brands.

Goal

In the wake of several lawsuits tied to compliance violations, I was tasked to conduct a UX and accessibility audit of the NinjaKitchen website. The priority was to zero in on specific issues, and present recommendations to bring pages and components up to W3C AA and AAA standard.

AccessibilitY Recommendations

  • Resize tap targets on mobile

  • Use inclusive, accessible copy on all CTAs (ie explore, learn more, find)

  • Optimize tab order, repair headings order (H1, H2, H3)

  • Implement alt image tags for all images

  • Remove embedded images in banners

  • Implement hover states on actions

  • Allow users to pause videos and animations, mute audio

PROCESS

Leveraging online resources I conducted an analysis of core pages, images, banners, and components used throughout the site.

I captured success criteria, human-readable definitions, examples from the site to illustrate, and even tagged the type of category or team that the issue could be resourced to in order to address and resolve. A read out was delivered to executive leadership, product, and strategyBy organizing all the issues this way, leadership was able to get an overall scope and take action items into prioritization sessions with the teams.
